The Department of Architectural Environmental Design is a graduate department, where students of 3-5 bachelor's, master's, and postgraduate courses study. Diploma projects of NNGASU graduates in the field of Architectural Environment Design are traditionally awarded with high awards at International competitions of the best diploma projects in architecture, design and art.

As the main tool, the integral connection of the educational and scientific process with architectural practice is used. Famous architects from Nizhny Novgorod work at the department. Students and undergraduates of the department under the guidance of teachers take an active part in the work of the Architectural Workshop of NNGASU.

The main discipline of the curriculum is architectural design, the main courses of lectures are: theory of design of the architectural environment, conceptual fundamentals and design methods, pre-project analysis of the urban environment, modern spatial and plastic arts, engineering and technological support of architectural and design solutions.

The department conducts training in the All-European step-by-step system of architectural education. This allows to realize active scientific and methodological international cooperation at different levels of education – with the Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy), the Higher School of Architecture of Grenoble (France), the University of Zuid (the Netherlands).
