Ecologically safe development of a large region – the Volga basin

Celebrations of the International day of monuments and historic places started on April 18 were continued during the whole week by participation of the UNESCO Chair’s staff in a number of events

On April 21, 2016 an exhibition of restoration projects implemented by the design organizations for cultural heritage objects of Nizhny Novgorod city and region was held in the Arsenal Hall. Professor of the UNESCO Chair Tatyana Ryzhova was one of the jury members and at the same time – a scientific supervisor of the first-year students of the Master courses. Visiting the exhibition by the students was part of the educational process.

Beside the restoration projects, the exhibition included archeological finds of specialized organizations of the city. The variety of displays demonstrated for future Master’s degree students the richness of the cultural layer with artifacts about the history of the urban landscape formation, as well as necessity to know the city archeology on the stage of predesign researches.

On Sunday, April 24, 2016, a joint meeting of the Council of NOOOPIiK (Nizhny Novgorod regional society for protection of monuments of history and culture) represented by the Council chairperson and professor of the UNESCO Chair T.S. Ryzhova, Council member and associate professor of the chair of architectural design A.V. Lisitsyna, and Council member, candidate of historic sciences, archaeologist T.V. Guseva and the NGO “Club “Gorodchanin” was held in the city of Gorodets. Problems related to the preservation of historic and cultural monuments of the ancient city of Gorodets were discussed.

The members of the two organizations identified the most urgent themes to be solved as soon as possible and confirmed the importance of continuing further cooperation between the two organizations.

It was important for the “Gorodchnin” members to hear professional advices from the NOOOPIiK specialists who had worked on the territory of their city studying in different years its archaeological and architectural heritage.
